About Us
COMC was established in 1998 and is part of the industry–academia innovation system of National Cheng Kung University, with a research team of more than 30 members. Its primary missions include the development of ocean observation technologies, assisting the government in establishing marine meteorological observation networks, conducting ocean and atmospheric observations and forecasts, and cultivating talent in marine research.

Congratulations! Director Dong-Jiing Doong has been awarded the “Engineering Professor Award.”
Director Dong-Jiing Doong has long been deeply engaged in the field of marine disaster prevention engineering. He leads the “NCKU Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center,” which has assisted the government in establishing a nationwide coastal oceanographic and meteorological observation network. In recent years, he has also actively invested in the development of wave power generators, promoting the advancement of localized technologies.

Welcome! Professor Jia-Lin Chen has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center.
The Center has appointed Professor Jia-Lin Chen from the Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, as Deputy Director, effective July 1, 2023. We warmly welcome Professor Chen to join the Center and look forward to her contributions to its sustainable operation and future development.

Director Dong-Jiing Doong has been awarded the 2023 “Water Resources Contribution Award” by the Water Resources Agency. His academic expertise includes marine meteorological and hydrological observation technologies, coastal protection, coastal hazard early warning systems, and marine recreation planning. He is also a key contributor to the establishment of Taiwan’s coastal oceanographic observation network.
