Real-Time Data
Since 1997, the Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center (COMC) has been assisting the government and related agencies in conducting operational oceanographic observations. In addition to enforcing strict quality control to ensure high-quality data, COMC has continuously improved observation success rates over the years, significantly enhancing Taiwan’s ocean monitoring capacity. These valuable datasets have been extensively applied in various fields, including marine meteorological forecasting, fishing and navigation safety, marine recreation risk assessment, and offshore wind energy development, becoming an indispensable database for ocean-related activities, environmental research, and marine resource assessments.
Several government agencies have also made buoy and tide–meteorological station data publicly accessible. Through COMC’s rigorous and consistent quality management, these data have become reliable sources for the public to obtain real-time ocean and meteorological information — such as the Central Weather Administration’s real-time sea condition portal, the Water Resources Agency’s Coastal Hydro-information System, and the Dapeng Bay Marine Hydrometeorological Information Platform. Furthermore, the National Academy of Marine Research’s “GoOcean” Marine Recreation Risk Information Platform integrates dynamic ocean–meteorological data with risk management insights, providing users of different experience levels with timely information to assess and manage marine recreation risks.
