Organization

In the challenging and ever-changing marine environment, oceanographic and meteorological observations are demanding tasks that require years of offshore operational experience to ensure sustainability. To develop critical observation technologies and establish a capable technical team to assist the government in conducting long-term, stable ocean and coastal monitoring, the Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center (COMC) was established.

At present, COMC has a multidisciplinary team of around 33 full-time researchers, responsible for operating and maintaining 28 nearshore and offshore monitoring stations around Taiwan, as well as performing data quality control and analysis. To promote localization of observation technology, COMC has built a professional technical and logistical support system that integrates experts in oceanography, hydraulics, meteorology, materials, structural engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and information technology. The COMC also conducts standardized and disciplined observation operations to ensure data reliability and continuity. Through talent cultivation and cross-disciplinary integration, COMC has successfully established a sustainable operational capability for ocean and meteorological observation, which serves as a crucial foundation for long-term marine environmental monitoring in Taiwan.
