n   The International Course-Coastal Protection, funded by DAAD, Germany is held from Sep. 14th to Oct. 2nd, 2009 at the Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering of National Cheng Kung University. The course is presented by lecturers from Dr.-Ing. Peter Fröhle from University of Rostock, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nicole von Lieberman from TU Hamburg-Harburg, Dr.-Ing. Karl-Friedrich Dämrich from Leibniz University Hannover, and Dipl.-Ing. Frank Thorenz from Lower Saxony Federal State Agency of Water Management, Coastal Protection and Environmental Protection. n   Prof. William W-G. Yeh, Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, University of California Los Angeles, visited COMC on August 25th. photo

n   During Typhoon MORAKOT (2009/ 08/052009/08/20) , the max significant wave height was 12.74m, which was observed by CWBs Siao Liouciou data buoy. The max wind gust was 39.2 m/sec (13F) , which was observed byWRAs Shihti station and the minimum pressure was 961.4 hPa, which were observed by CWBs Hualien data buoy. (Aug 2009).

n   Prof. Y. Peter Sheng, Professor and Director of Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering, University of Florida, USA, visited COMC on June 3th. He gave lectures about storm surge modeling. photo

n   Director Prof. Chia Chuen Kao, Central Weather Bureau and GKSS Research Centre organized theWorkshop on Retrospective Simulation and Analysis of Changing SE Asian High-Resolution Typhoon Wind and Wave Statisitcs.
