n      The International Course-Coastal Protection, funded by DAAD, Germany and NCKU and be held from Sep. 15 to Oct. 3, 2008 at the Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering of National Cheng Kung University. The course was presented by lecturers from Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Sören Kohlhase from University of Rostock, Dr.-Ing. Peter Fröhle from University of Rostock, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Nicole von Lieberman from TU Hamburg-Harburg, and Dr.-Ing. Karl-Friedrich Dämrich from Leibniz University Hannover.

n       During Typhoon JANGMI  (2008/09/262008/09/29), the max significant wave height was 12.45m, which was observed by WRAs Hsinchu data buoy. The max wind gust was 38.5 m/sec (13F) , which was observed by CWBs Eluanbi data buoy and the minimum pressure was 975.2 hPa, which were observed by WRAs Shihti station. (Oct 2008).

n       During Typhoon HAGUPIT (2008/ 09/212008/09/23), the max significant wave height was 4.79m, which was observed by CWBs Eluanbi data buoy. The max wind gust was 26.6 m/sec (10F) , which was observed by CWBs Eluanbi data buoy and the minimum pressure was 992.5 hPa, which were observed by Tourism Bureau,MOTCs Gueishandao data buoy. (Sept 2008).

n      During Typhoon SINLAKU (2008/09/112008/09/16), the max significant wave height was 11.09m, which was observed by CWBs Suao data buoy. The max wind gust was 28.7 m/sec (11F) , which was observed by CWBs Suao data buoy and the minimum pressure was 967.9 hPa, which were observed by Tourism Bureau,MOTCs Gueishandao data buoy. (Sept 2008).

n      After Typhoon NURI (2008/8/19~2008/8/21)the max significant wave height was observed by data buoys at sooth-west coast of Taiwan. The significant wave height and mean period wereWRA Chiku buoy (9.45m12.1sec) WRA Eluanbi buoy (5.89m10.0sec)CWB Dapeng Bay buoy (5.36m9.9sec) CWB Siao Liouciou buoy (7.40m9.9sec).August 2008

n    During Typhoon FUNG-WONG (2008/7/26~2008/7/29)the max significant wave height was 9.58m, which was observed by CWBs Hualien data buoy. The max wind gust was 48.4 m/sec (15F) and the minimum pressure was 960.9 hPa, which were observed by WRAs Shihti station. (July 2008)

n    Dr. Heinz Guenther from GKSS Research Center, Germany visited COMC by collaboration from July 13th to 18th which depend onWissenschaftleraustauschprogramm zwischen dem NSC und dem DAAD. (July 2008)

n    Director Prof. C.C. Kao is assigned by The NSC and DAAD to organize 2008 NSC-DAAD Summer Institute Program. 10 Chinese PhD students have been going to visit Germany since June. 20 German students will stay in Taiwan universities or institutes for two months since August 2008.
