n    Dr. Ping SHI, Director of Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Sha LI, Director of Information Services Center, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Qiang XIE, Director of Research Planning, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Dr. Roger Z. Yu, Director of Chief English Editor, Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology; Dr. Xiaoqing Chu, Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; visited COMC on october 22.

n    The Taitung Data Buoy is developed, manufactured and operated by COMC, assigned and supported by the WRA. COMC deployed buoy on September 14, and the location of water depth is 30 m.

n    Meteo-oceangraphic data were successfully observed during Typhoon NAMTHEUN and Typhoon LIONROCK with Data Buoys in the Dongsha Island, Taitung Deep-Water and Matsu which operated by COMC, in cooperation with the Central Weather Bureau this year. figure

n    During Typhoon NAMTHEUN (2010/ 08/302010/08/31) and Typhoon LIONROCK (2010/ 08/312010/09/2), the max significant wave height is 6.48m, which was observed by WRAs Eluanbi data buoy. The max wind gust was 25.6 m/sec , which was observed by CWB’s Dongsha Island data buoy and the minimum pressure was 986.2hPa, which were observed by CWB’s Dongsha Island data buoy. (Sep, 2010).

n      Prof. Norimi Mizutani from Department of Civil Engineering, Nagoya University with his three graduate students visited COMC on August 31th. photo

n      Prof. Cheng Wang, President of Hohai University of China, Prof. Liliang Ren, Director of International Office, Prof. Guoqing Shi, Dean of Public Administration School, Prof. Jinhai Zheng, Dean of Ocean College and Prof. Jichao Guo, Director of President’s Office come to visit COMC on August 13th. photo

n      The Matsu Data Buoy is developed, manufactured and operated by COMC, assigned and supported by the Central Weather Bureau. COMC deployed buoy on August 1, and the location of water depth is 58 m. The data buoy measures the wave data as well as the meteorological data to offer navigation reference and to promote the wave forecast. photo

n      General Ching Hsi, Vice-President of Chung-shan Institute of Science and Technology led a eight senior scientists come to visit COMC on July 21st. photo

n      Dr. Leangchwan Charles Sun, Deputy Chief of the Marine Data Stewardship Division, National Oceanographic Data Center, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association, Prof. S.C.Ling and Prof. Hsien P. Pao, The Catholic University of America, Dr. Xiaochun Wang, Assistant Researcher of University of California, Los Angeles visited COMC on July 1. photo

n      The Taitung Deep-Water Data Buoy is developed, manufactured and operated by COMC, assigned and supported by the Central Weather Bureau. COMC deployed buoy on June 11, and the location of water depth is 5200 m. The data buoy measure wave data as well as the meteorological data to promote the typhoon forecast and wave forecast.

n      The Dongsha Island Data Buoy is developed, manufactured and operated by COMC, assigned and supported by the Central Weather Bureau. COMC deployed buoy on May 25, and the location of water depth is 2600 m. The data buoy measure wave data as well as the meteorological data to promote the typhoon forecast and wave forecast.

n       Deputy Director Yue Chen, Department of International Cooperation of State Oceanic Administration,China led a five senior scientists come to visit COMC on April 2nd. photo

n      Congratulation to the former director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Chia Chun Kao as the director of Taiwan Ocean Research Institute, National Applied Research Laboratories. The new director of COMC is Prof. Ching Tse Huang who is the Professor of Department of Hydraulic and Ocean Engineering. (2010/2)
